Bechtel has been appointed as the delivery partner for the expansion of King Salman International Airport (KSIA) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This significant development aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, aiming to transform Riyadh into a global logistics hub and enhance the nation's aviation infrastructure.

Project Overview

The expansion of KSIA is poised to make it one of the world's largest airports. The project encompasses the construction of six parallel runways and the capacity to handle up to 185 million passengers and 3.5 million tons of cargo annually by 2050. Bechtel's role includes managing the delivery of three new terminals: a terminal for commercial carriers, Terminal 6 for low-cost carriers, and a new private aviation terminal with hangars. The design and construction will prioritize achieving LEED Platinum certification, emphasizing sustainability and innovative solutions.

Strategic Implications

The expansion of KSIA is a cornerstone in Saudi Arabia's efforts to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on oil revenues. By enhancing global connectivity and supporting economic growth in Riyadh and the surrounding region, the project is expected to create numerous job opportunities and stimulate various sectors, including tourism, trade, and logistics.
