Dubai, UAE – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially awarded the main contract for the Al Qudra corridor upgrade to Wade Adams Contracting. The AED 798 million project is a major road development initiative aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity in one of Dubai’s rapidly developing areas. The appointment of Wade Adams as the lead contractor marks a significant step forward in expanding the city’s infrastructure to meet growing transit needs.

Project Overview: Al Qudra Corridor Upgrade Highlights

  • Road Expansion: Widening and extending Al Qudra Street by approximately 11.6 kilometers, linking it seamlessly with key routes. The upgraded corridor will run from the intersection of Al Qudra Street at Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road through Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, reaching all the way to Emirates Road.

  • New Bridges & Interchanges: Construction of 2.7 kilometers of new bridges and multiple interchange improvements along the corridor. These modern flyovers and junction upgrades will eliminate bottlenecks and ensure free-flowing traffic between Al Qudra Street and surrounding highways.

  • Capacity & Traffic Improvements: Once complete, the enhanced corridor will boost road capacity and cut travel times dramatically – reducing a typical journey along Al Qudra from about 9.4 minutes to just 2.8 minutes. This means smoother commutes and less congestion during peak hours.

  • Community Impact: The project will benefit an estimated 400,000 residents and visitors in the area. By improving access to growing communities and leisure destinations around Al Qudra, the upgrade supports Dubai’s urban development and provides safer, quicker travel for drivers.

Timeline and Strategic Significance

The Al Qudra corridor upgrade is a key component of Dubai’s 2024–2027 Main Roads Development Plan – a three-year infrastructure program valued at roughly AED 16 billion. This strategic plan encompasses 22 major road projects across the emirate, all designed to alleviate traffic congestion and accommodate future growth. By integrating Al Qudra Street with Dubai’s major highways, the project not only addresses current traffic issues but also aligns with the city’s long-term vision of sustainable urban mobility. The improvements will enhance connectivity to new residential hubs and attractions, reinforcing Dubai’s reputation for world-class road infrastructure. Construction work is expected to progress in phases over the coming few years, ensuring that the upgraded corridor is ready to serve the city’s needs well before the end of the plan in 2027.
